I began my journey as a volunteer tutor at ASUK, I loved it so much I enquired about doing ABA as my full-time job. Linzi did a fantastic job in pointing me in the right direction. I now work with many families across the northwest working as an ABA tutor and have now been offered the fantastic opportunity to join ASUK as a room leader. I am so excited to start my role as a room leader at ASUK.

My role will include supporting tutors and parents to set up learning opportunities and ensuring each child’s needs are met and overseeing their individualised learning plans and ensuring there are meeting their needs. Further, ensuring that I prepare a lesson plan ahead of the session to ensure all children’s needs are met and it allows for each individuals difference.

I have worked in many different roles across healthcare and education settings working with both children and adults for with learning disabilities and mental health for the past 14 years. I have a range of experience, from hospitals, rehabilitations, mainstream schools, special schools and also working with individuals in their own homes. I recently received a first-class honours BA degree in Inclusive Education, Special Education Needs and Disability Studies at Manchester Metropolitan University. Here I learnt about different education settings and what I found is most mainstream education and special education expects the child to adapt to their way of teaching, so during this time I spent time doing research trying to find an alternative solution, this is when I fell upon ABA and ASUK.

Here I actually found a team of individuals and a service that adapts and responds to every child’s needs, if the teaching doesn’t work they change it, they don’t try to change the child but try to adapt their methods to help teach the child. That’s why I chose ASUK and returned as a volunteer and chose to be an ABA tutor. I am so excited now to become a room leader!
