Hi I'm Kirsty Keyburn, Head Behaviourist at Autism Support UK.
I oversee all the behaviour analytic programmes implemented at ASUK. I provide training for the behaviour management team including Supervisors, Room Leads and Assistant Room Leads. This training includes assessing children, overseeing target design across a range of skill areas, behaviour development plans and support with forming end of intake reports to effectively communicate progress to parents and other professionals. I also write and present the initial tutor training to our trainee behaviour therapists. This includes at least 2 full days of theory and simulated training as a foundation for ‘on the job’ coaching throughout the cohort.
I work together with the Director of ASUK (Linzi Tropea) and Katy Lee (Board Certified Behaviour Analyst) to develop the ASUK model in line with the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board (BACB) ethical framework providing person centred intervention and support for children and families with autism in line with current evidence-based research. I provide various presentations/ workshops to parents disseminating information that will help families outside of sessions and beyond their time at ASUK.
My services as Head Behaviourist are delivered through Bridge to learning Ltd (BTL), a provider for behaviour analytic services outside of ASUK. I work as a Learning and Behaviour Consultant through BTL designing and managing behaviour analytic programmes working in collaboration with families, schools, local authorities and other professionals such as Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists etc. My experience of working within the field of behaviour analysis ranges from 18 month to 16 years olds over the past 8 years. This spans across many settings including nurseries, mainstream school (Primary and secondary), specialised schools and within the home environment.
I have a degree in Psychology and Counselling and am nearing the end of my Masters degree in Applied Behaviour Analysis. I continue to accrue BCBA supervision hours towards sitting the BCBA exam while being fully supervised by Katy Lee (BCBA) for both my Bridge to learning Ltd and Autism Support UK roles. On top of this I have worked with children, adults and families with various abilities and diagnosis ranging from 18 months to a 90 years old in an extensive list of settings and roles incorporating various interventions and support models.
I am passionate about providing opportunities for individuals to reach their full potential by supporting the child, their families and professionals to tailor their environment meeting the needs of the child. We do this at ASUK through skill building, reducing barriers to learning and helping individuals to use their time effectively making sure they engage in meaningful activities and build relationships to access the community to their fullest. The child’s values are kept at the centre of intervention design and implementation at every stage. The smile of a happy learner and watching families and professionals grow in confidence keeps me motivated!
