Georgina Fenton

Hi, I’m Georgina and I’m a room leader at Autism Support UK. My role as room leader includes supporting 6 children with Autism to achieve their personalised targets, which after an initial assessment, are set by my supervisor to tailor to each child as an individual. My role also includes supporting the assistant room lead and a team of trainee tutors to observe and set up learning opportunities to work on the children’s targets and make progress in key skills. I will also be providing and continually adapting lesson plans weekly, to suit the needs of the group, and the children focusing on their likes and abilities, to make each session as fun and motivation as possible. This will help to provide continuous opportunities to achieve and learn.

I began my journey into the world of ABA four intakes ago, as a volunteer trainee tutor. I then progressed to an assistant room lead, and now my first intake as a room leader. I have worked within all the different ages and abilities of children throughout the intakes, which has helped me gain experience and knowledge about not only ABA (Applied behaviour analysis) but also data taking, an eye for setting up learning opportunities, and working alongside other tutors as a team.

Aside from Autism Support U.K, I have experience working with children from birth 4 years old in a nursery setting after gaining my level 3 in childcare, learning and development. I have also worked within school settings as a teaching assistant, in both mainstream and S.E.N schools. My biggest achievement within my learning journey, however is participating in Camp America, working on a summer camp with children and adults with physical, mental and learning disabilities. During my 2 summers in America I also worked with children with Arthritis, and a sibling program, for children in foster care to be reunited with their siblings for a week. My experiences have lead me to current course of study at University studying youth and community work.

I can honestly say that Autism Support UK has helped to shape me as a person. Ive gained so much knowledge and experience, but also grown in confidence and the team genially are one big supportive family. Without the management team I’d have never accepted new roles within the team, and wouldn’t be the person I am today. The changes AS-UK have on these inspiring little people and of course their families, motivates me to keep coming back, and it really is life changing!
